A decision that changed everything

A six letter word that shifts everything.

In the face of millions of viewers, Kaepernick decided to demonstrate his concern of police brutality by not standing during the National Anthem. Some may ask, how does the flag relate to Kaepernick's form of protesting?

In an exclusive interview with NFL Media, Kaepernick sums up his actions into one sentence...

"I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color"

Thousands of student-athletes across the world witnessed both the bravery and cost of standing up for what you believe in. Fans who screamed Kaepernick's name on Sunday’s, organizations who hand picked him as quarterback, and even peers turned their backs on the important message Kaepernick was trying to convey.

To end police brutality against the black and brown community.

This series is about changing the narrative, so what is Colin Kaepernick teaching the upcoming generation? Through one lens…

A word we all know so well.

For anyone, a question to ask is, what am I willing to give up or not have for the greater good?

To put it in perspective, you work all your life to be given the chance to fulfill your dream. Then, you make the conscious decision to stand up for what you believe in, risking losing the very thing you’ve worked to gain.

"This is not something that I am going to run by anybody,....I am not looking for approval. I have to stand up for people that are oppressed. ... If they take football away, my endorsements from me, I know that I stood up for what is right." - Colin Kaepernick

Kaepernick knew it was bigger than him , it was bigger than football. It was important to raise awareness at a national, even global level, in order to combat the war on police brutality. His bold actions led to worldwide discussions, initiated reforms, and showed student-athletes everywhere that they do have a voice and it can be powerful!

Being an athlete is more than just entertainment.

Athletes have the opportunity to shift culture.

Changing the Narrative is Colin Kaepernick
